The Wasemillers

Since Allie is now 8 months old, I thought that it was about time to go ahead and write down her birth story before I forget everything!
Before I get started, I have to give you a little background. Up until my 34th week of pregnancy, Allie was in the transverse position (which means she was lying sideways). Because of her crazy position, my doctor decided to monitor her via ultrasound. If she were to stay transverse they were going to do a c-section at 37 weeks. Luckily for me, she flipped (very painfully) and it was verified that she was head down at my 35th week ultrasound. Always one for drama, at this ultrasound, they found that her left kidney was dilated. Every other ultrasound had been just fine so we were definitely concerned. My doctor basically said that there were a couple of scenarios-kidney reflux or hormones and we would just continue to monitor everything via ultrasound. We repeated the ultrasound at our 37 week check up. Allie's kidney was still dilated and I noticed that she hadn't gained any weight-she was still around 6lbs. This concerned me but Dr. McClintock didn't say anything about it so I just ignored it. At this point I was already dilated 2-3 so she didn't figure she would see me the next week at our 38 week appt. That Wednesday, when I was 37 weeks 6 days I had regular contractions all night long so since there was a massive ice storm we decided it would be best to head to the hospital. They checked me and I was 3-4 cm dilated but my contractions had all but stopped. They baby sounded good on the monitor so they sent us home (totally embarrassing for your 2nd child). February 7th (Allie's birthday), was my 38 week appointment (38 weeks 4 days to be exact-exactly when I had Drake). At this point we were monitoring Allie weekly via ultrasound. When I had the ultrasound we noticed that her weight was only 5 lbs 14 oz (she had been around 6 lbs 2 oz the week before), she was also being very lazy so the sonographer told me that she thought that we'd be having a baby very soon. Sure enough, when Dr. McClintock found out about the weight loss and the lazy baby she let me know that we would be inducing that day or the next morning. She wanted to send me over to the hospital for a Non Stress Test (NST) and based on the results we would decide if the induction would take place asap or the next morning. My mom and Drake were there with me so they went with me over to the hospital. I had to be wheeled in a wheelchair and Drake sat on my lap. He thought it was so much fun that "Mommy is in a stroller". :) On the "ride" over I called David to let him know what was going on. He was totally confused and just told me to call him when I knew what I needed him to do.
During the NST mom took Drake down to get some lunch and while she was gone Dr. McClintock came in-in her scrubs and said that we would be inducing that day. She said that Allie looked good but not great and there was no need to wait any longer, we were just going to break my water and get my epidural started. CRAZY! I called David and told him to go home to get the bags and to come to the hospital when he could get there. I sent Mom home with Drake so that he could take a nap. Dr. McC came in and broke my water (ouch) and they got my iv started. Within about 20 minutes the anesthesiologist came in to give me my epidural. Let me tell you-it was a lot more painful this time since I wasn't having massive contractions like I was when I got the one with Drake. After the epidural was in and started (happy button) they started the Pitocin (or the devil's juice as I like to call it). It was about 1:45 pm when the induction was officially started. About 20 minutes after my epidural was in the anesthesiologist came back in because he lost his wedding ring, so he, the nurse and I spent the next 15 minutes looking for it-keep in mind I could barely move. With the help of the nurse, I sat up in the bed and we heard the ring hit the floor! What a wild story :) (When I saw the Dr. again after I had Allie he let me know that I was his favorite patient :))
It was so surreal that I was alone during all of this-David wasn't at the hospital yet. There was nothing on tv so I watched a Cake Boss marathon on TLC. David finally arrived and was surprised that everything was done and I was just hanging out. At around 3:30 pm, the nurse came in to check me and I was 5 cm dilated (I was 4 when the induction started). At about 4:30 I was at a 6. We just continued to hang out-David was on the computer and I was watching my 6th episode of Cake Boss. At about 6:00, the nurse checked me and I was dilated to 7 cm. Dr. McC came in and she and my nurse told me to let them know if I started feeling pressure because with a 2nd baby it normally doesn't take long to go from 7-10. About 30 minutes after they left the room I started to feel pressure. I kept telling David that he should go change his clothes because I needed to call the nurse. After a few minutes of convincing he finally changed and I buzzed the nurse to tell her I was feeling pressure. When she came in to check me she said "Don't sneeze, because I don't want to have to deliver this baby with your husband". LOL. I had dilated from a 7 to a 10 in less than 30 minutes! Dr. McC came in and they wouldn't even put my legs up since they didn't want me to deliver yet. When they gave me the go ahead to push, I barely started and Dr. McC said "Don't push so hard" it only took literally a push and a half before I heard my doctor say "Look down, here's your baby". David kept saying that she looked like a mini Drake. I couldn't believe how tiny and perfect she was! 5 lbs 12 oz!! She was crying and I was so thankful since we weren't sure if she would be healthy or not (due to the kidney issue and IUGR- Intrauterine Growth Restriction). It was just amazing to see this precious little girl that was the last piece to our family. Dr. McC said that I should have at least 1 more baby since labor and delivery were so easy for me :) but I told her that we are good with 2.
I couldn't believe how fast the whole thing went-5 hours from start to finish of the induction. My doctor said it probably would have been about 3 hours if I would've gone on my own-which would have probably meant no epidural. No thanks!

Allie is 8 months old!! She is such an amazing little thing. Here is what is going on at 8 months:
She is working on crawling but can roll anywhere and everywhere so who knows if she will ever crawl. She still LOVES to eat and is especially good about feeding herself. Her favorite things are still veggies (especially squash), but she also loves her oatmeal mixed with fruit. She is in 9 month, and some 12 month clothes. Allie's favorite person is her "bubba" and she loves to "talk" all of the time. She can say da da, ma ma, and bubba really well. She gets into everything-especially Drake's toys :), so that has caused a little bit of trouble! She and Drake are great friends though so it's a blast to see their relationship develop. She has one special trick that David has taught her-she will throw here arms up when you say touchdown and then clap-too cute!
