Letter to my One-Year-Old

Dear Drake,

It is so hard to believe that it has been an entire year since you came into our lives, that we have spent the last 365 days waking up to your sweet face. It is amazing how fast this year has flown by. It really does seem like yesterday that we were taking you home from the hospital and wondering what we were going to do with you! Now you are officially a toddler, a big boy, so different from the tiny, curled up newborn that we brought home.

At the age of one, you are an amazing little guy with such an incredible personality. You are honestly the happiest baby that I've ever seen and everyone loves you. You talk all of the time and although some things really aren't words, you can say ma ma, da, da, hey, hi, bird, and light (I'm sure I'm missing a few). Your favorite word since you began to babble has always been da da, but you do like to say ma ma too and it melts my heart every time that I hear it. You LOVE your puppies Rudie and Maggie, they make you laugh practically every time that you look at them. You love books and love to "read" them out loud to us. You aren't walking or really even crawling well yet, but you can roll and army crawl backwards to get to pretty much anything that you want to. Your favorite food is yogurt and you love Cheerios. You are tall with chicken legs and chubby thighs, and you still have those wonderful chubby cheeks. Your hair is long and curly in the back (I just can't make myself cut it). You have the most infectious laugh and we can't help but laugh along with you. You scrunch up your face and grin when we say "cheese" to you or you just see a camera. You clap and wave and point and can even do the OSU pistol (which is very important). Anytime you hear music you dance, bouncing up and down, and love it when we dance while holding you. You give the most wonderful slobbery kisses and when you're sleepy you lay your head on my shoulder. I cherish every minute that I am able to spend with you.

This first year as your mommy has been so wonderful. In a way I will miss my tiny snuggly baby, but I look forward to watching you grow and learn because no matter how old you get, you will always be my sweet baby boy.

Happy first birthday to you, our little mister. Words cannot express the love that your daddy and I feel for you.

Love,
Mommy
